Basketball Selection: Ukraine – USA. Different paths, same goal

On March 24, 2025, the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Human Health of Berdiansk State Pedagogical University hosted an event that united Ukraine and the United States of America.

As part of the study of the educational component “Fundamentals of Theory and Methods of Sports Selection and Orientation”, Maryna Gurinenko, a basketball coach at the Hoop Sphere private sports school in Fremont (USA), was invited to meet with higher education students. She shared her many years of experience working with future specialists in physical culture and sports, spoke about the peculiarities of sports selection and training of basketball players in the United States. Maryna Gurinenko paid special attention to an integrated approach to player development, which includes not only physical training but also psychological stability, tactical thinking and effective teamwork.

The report aroused great interest among students majoring in 017 “Physical Culture and Sports”. During the event, the participants had the opportunity to compare the American and Ukrainian systems of sports selection and training, discuss prospects for cooperation and share their own experiences. The participants also discussed the development of youth basketball, integration of modern training methods and introduction of the latest technologies in the process of sports training.

The event was a great opportunity for higher education students to expand their knowledge, exchange ideas and strengthen international relations in the field of physical culture and sports.
