Every October, educational and research institutions across Europe celebrate Erasmus Days – an initiative that highlights how the Erasmus+ programme transforms education, science, and society by creating opportunities for exchange, partnership, and development.

This year, Berdyansk State Pedagogical University (BSPU) became part of the European celebration, presenting its own contribution to strengthening academic resilience. As part of the event, the university team held an online presentation entitled “ReACT for a Resilient Academic Community: Mental Health and Psychological Flexibility in Times of Crisis,” which took place on October 16, 2025. The event brought together lecturers, PhD students, and researchers interested in the topic of mental health in academia.

BSPU is a partner of the international project ReACT (Researchers’ act: training for psychological flexibility and work-related stress management), implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ programme in cooperation with universities and research institutions from Romania, Portugal, Switzerland, and Turkey. The project aims to create an innovative psychoeducational programme for researchers, designed to develop psychological flexibility and work-related stress management – key competencies for maintaining effectiveness and well-being in academic life.

During Erasmus Days, the BSPU team – Nataliia Tsybuliak, Hanna Lopatina, and Anastasiia Popova – presented the results of the project and invited the academic community to participate in the upcoming pilot testing of the programme.

Participants learned about:

  • the goals and expected outcomes of ReACT, which will help the academic community better cope with stress and uncertainty;
  • the effectiveness of digital tools for supporting mental health, analyzed within the project framework;
  • the structure of the web-based programme, developed on the principles of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) – a therapeutic approach that integrates values, awareness, and committed action.

The event was not only informative but also served as a starting point for future implementation. During the session, the team announced pre-registration for the spring pilot programme in 2026, giving participants the opportunity to be among the first to join the ReACT community and explore innovative tools for supporting mental health in professional life.

Erasmus Days once again reminded us:

  • Resilient universities begin with resilient people.
  • Caring for mental health, developing psychological flexibility, and the ability to act amid uncertainty are the foundations of the academic future shaped by responsible, mindful, and inspired educators and researchers.

The event contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
