To mark the International Day for Tolerance, traditionally celebrated on November 16, students of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University joined a university-wide lecture (speaker – Karyna Koval, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Pedagogy) dedicated to fostering a culture of respect, mutual understanding, and acceptance of diversity. The event became an important platform for realizing the value of the diversity that surrounds each of us in modern society. Students and guests had the opportunity to reconsider their personal attitudes toward others and to learn to see differences not as obstacles but as resources.
Particular attention was paid to how tolerance manifests itself in the educational environment, why it is a necessary condition for the development of a modern university, and how a culture of acceptance influences interpersonal interaction, creates a safe space, and fosters trust within the community.
At the end of the lecture, participants contributed to creating a collective «Code of Tolerance of the University Community», where they described in their own words what respect, acceptance, and openness mean to them. These shared statements became a symbol of young people’s readiness to cultivate a culture of understanding and support.
The lecture not only deepened students’ knowledge about tolerance but also helped them recognize it as an essential life skill and a key value of the 21st century – one that underpins peaceful coexistence and professional growth.
