The Department of Economics, Management and Finance continues to prioritize the continuous professional development of its faculty, especially in the context of rapid technological change.
From November 24 to 28, Associate Professors Kateryna Lemish, Tetiana Sydorchenko, Yana Glazova and Senior Lecturers Olena Zadvornа and Viktoriia Shvachko successfully completed a large-scale online professional development course “Science ✕ AI: A New Paradigm” (1 ECTS credit / 30 hours), organized by the NGO “Prohresylni” and the Ukrainian Office of Research Integrity.
This course became a crucial step in adapting to a new educational reality where artificial intelligence plays an increasingly significant role. It emphasized effective and responsible integration of AI into research and teaching, while ensuring high standards of academic integrity in the era of generative models.
Participants explored key aspects of the interaction between science and AI through expert-led sessions:
Speakers: Yana Sychikova, Dr. Sci., Prof.; Natalia Tsybuliak, PhD, Assoc. Prof.
The lecture explored the transformation of AI usage culture, the role and limitations of AI detectors, ethical frameworks and responsibilities of researchers, integrity challenges, and practical cases of AI integration into scientific processes.
Speaker: Dmytro Chumachenko, PhD, Assoc. Prof., Head of the ‘Education and Science’ Working Group at the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Participants learned which research processes AI automates (hypothesis generation, semantic search, data design and collection), mass use of AI for text processing, and the concept of AI as a co-researcher and strategist. A need for a transparent new architecture of science was emphasized.
Speaker: Artem Artiukhov, Head of the Ukrainian Office of Research Integrity.
The lecture covered ethical boundaries of generative AI use, differences between acceptable assistance and manipulation, AI’s impact on academic integrity criteria, and the need to update university policies. It highlighted that humans remain responsible for the accuracy and ethics of research.
Speaker: Pawel Milaszewicz, Head of Global Sales and Partnership at Identific.
Key insights included: 92% of students and 66% of European school pupils are already using AI. It is crucial to recognize that rules, trust, and boundaries matter more than tools, as AI can enhance education but cannot replace human responsibility.
Speaker: Oleksii Kalmykov, MD, Assoc. Prof.
Myths were debunked: AI is a tool whose effectiveness depends on human input. AI opens new opportunities, yet requires adaptation and collaboration. High-quality datasets remain essential for trustworthy results.
Mastering this new paradigm empowers faculty of the Department of Economics, Management and Finance to:
We are confident that the knowledge gained through the course “Science ✕ AI: A New Paradigm” will further enhance the innovation and effectiveness of both teaching and research at the department.
