Recently, the Department of Ukrainian and Foreign Literature and Comparative Literature Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of BDPU held an Olympiad in the history of foreign literature, in which first- to third-year students of the following specialisations took an active part: B014 Secondary Education (English Language and Foreign Literature), 014.02 Secondary Education (Language and Foreign Literature (specifying the language)), and B035 Philology (Germanic Languages and Literatures (including translation), the first being English and the second German).

Holding such intellectual competitions is an extremely important form of activity, as they not only stimulate young people’s intellectual curiosity but also contribute to the development of professional competencies among future philologists, fostering critical thinking and the ability to conduct in-depth analysis of global cultural achievements.

While completing the tasks, the students demonstrated a thorough knowledge and a creative approach to solving complex literary questions. Participants demonstrated not only command of the content of literary texts but also of complex categories of literary theory, as well as an understanding of the patterns of the global literary process in its historical development. The organisers noted the high level of preparation and the future specialists’ ability to interpret classical and contemporary works academically.

Following the results of the intellectual competition, the winners who achieved the best results were recognised among students of the B014 Secondary Education (English Language and Foreign Literature) and B014 Secondary Education (Ukrainian Language and Literature)

  • 1st place – Daryna Khizhnyak (2nd year) and Elvira K. (3rd year)
  • 2nd place – Veronika Horulko (2nd year) and Alina Kostetska (3rd year)
  • 3rd place – Anastasia Kutsenko (3rd year), Albina Novogradskaya (1st year) and Alona Neizhala (1st year).
