Representatives of the British literary agency Felicity Bryan Associates visited Berdyansk State Pedagogical University: Managing Director Catherine Clarke and Contracts and Rights Manager Michele Topham.
The event was held at the initiative of students and teachers of BSPU, in particular the educational program “Literary and Artistic Management”.
The participants discussed the specifics of the work of literary agents, mechanisms for promoting books on the international market and the formation of commercially successful projects. Special attention was paid to practical cases of the agency’s experience.
During the conversation, Catherine Clarke shared the story of working on the book “Other Worlds: The World in the Making” by Thomas Halliday. According to her, the manuscript was sent to about 20 leading publishers in Great Britain, and they all became interested in this work. As a result, Penguin Books was chosen, after which the book received dozens of contracts for translation into different languages.
The event is evidence of the growing demand for professional knowledge in the field of literary management in Ukraine. Such meetings contribute to the integration of the Ukrainian book market into the global space.
Felicity Bryan Associates (Oxford) specializes in representing authors of fiction and non-fiction. It cooperates with leading global publishers and supports agreements on the translation and publication of books in different countries.
