On April 2, 2026, an online meeting dedicated to the topic “International Experience in Literature Promotion” was held at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The event brought together students interested in literary творчість, translation, and cultural management, becoming an important step in expanding their professional horizons. Among the participants were Marina Bohdanova, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Olha Kharlan, Head of the Department of Ukrainian and Foreign Literature and Comparative Literary Studies, and guarantor of the “Philology” educational program; Hanna Tabakova, guarantor of the “Literary and Artistic Management” educational and scientific program; as well as a student of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The guest speaker was Hanna Hnedkova — an author, translator from German and English, journalist at “Chytomo,” and Head of the NGO “Media Center of the Ukrainian Community in Vienna.” She shared her experience of promoting Ukrainian literature abroad, spoke about working in an international cultural environment, and outlined opportunities for Ukrainian authors and translators in Europe.
During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the mechanisms of promoting Ukrainian books on the European book market. Participants learned about the role of translation as a key tool of cultural dialogue, as well as opportunities to participate in international literary projects, grant programs, and residencies. The discussion also highlighted the importance of professional networks and cooperation among authors, translators, publishers, and cultural institutions.
For students of the “Literary and Artistic Management” educational and scientific program and the “Philology” educational and professional program, the meeting was especially valuable. It demonstrated that a modern philologist is not only a researcher of texts but also an active participant in the cultural process, capable of working in book promotion, organizing literary events, and engaging in international communication. The practical experience shared by the speaker helped students better understand the specifics of working in cultural management and see real pathways for professional development.
The meeting also opened prospects for further cooperation with promoters of Ukrainian literature abroad. Establishing such connections is an important step toward integrating Ukrainian literature into the global cultural space and creates new opportunities for young professionals to engage in international projects.
Thus, such events are extremely important for modern philological education. They combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience, shape professional thinking, and contribute to the training of competitive specialists capable of working effectively in the field of literary and artistic management both in Ukraine and beyond.
