Biology as a vocation: in honour of Biology Teachers’ Day

Biology Teachers’ Day is a special occasion that brings together teachers, researchers, students and everyone who has dedicated their lives to the study and promotion of biological science. To mark the occasion, Berdiansk State Pedagogical University hosted a series of themed events dedicated to the role of the modern biology teacher in the context of the development of the latest educational technologies and the reform of the education system.

To mark Biology Teachers’ Day, a round-table discussion was held, bringing together researchers, lecturers, practising teachers and students to discuss pressing issues in the development of modern biology education. The event served as an important platform for professional dialogue, the exchange of experience and the discussion of prospects for improving biology teaching methods in the context of educational reform.

The Department of Biology, Human Health and Physical Rehabilitation at Berdiansk State Pedagogical University actively collaborates with Zaporizhzhia National University in the fields of scientific and educational activities, the professional training of future biology teachers, and the development of modern biology education. This collaboration involves organising joint scientific and methodological events, round-table discussions and conferences; exchanging experience on teaching methods for biology and integrated courses; and engaging students in research activities. Such cooperation helps to improve the quality of professional training for future specialists and fosters educational partnerships between higher education institutions.

Representatives from Zaporizhzhia National University and Berdiansk State Pedagogical University took part in the round-table discussion, emphasising the need to train competitive biology teachers capable of creative professional practice, self-improvement and the implementation of innovative educational technologies. Participants discussed topical issues regarding the methodology of teaching biology and integrated courses, the use of innovative approaches in teaching, as well as the specifics of developing research and environmental competencies in students.

During the discussion, participants examined current issues in the methodology of teaching biology and integrated courses, the specifics of developing research competencies in students, the use of interactive teaching methods, digital resources and cross-curricular integration in the learning process.

Particular attention was paid to creating an educational environment that fosters the development of critical thinking, environmental awareness and cognitive engagement among school pupils.

Participants in the round table emphasised that today’s biology teachers play a vital role in shaping students’ scientific outlook, promoting environmental values and fostering a responsible attitude towards nature and human health. The event took place in an atmosphere of professional cooperation and open scientific and pedagogical dialogue, confirming the importance of consolidating the efforts of higher education institutions in training future teachers.
