The Department of Theory and Methods of Teaching Artistic Disciplines of the BSPU presents a creative project Anatoliy Kos-Anatolskyi «Song is the Soul of the People»

Anatoliy Kos-Anatolskyi (1909-1983) – an outstanding composer and teacher, pianist, musicologist, People’s Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the T. Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine. The composer entered the history of domestic musical culture as one of its bright, original and active creators.

In graduated from the Law Faculty of Lviv University, and in – the Lviv Conservatory named after K. Szymanovsky.

Since 1952, A. Kos-Anatolskyi has been working as a teacher at the Lviv Conservatory named after M. Lysenko, and in 1973 became its professor. He headed the Lviv Union of Composers of Ukraine for many years. Thanks to him, a large galaxy of musicians, conductors, composers was born. Most of Kos-Anatolsky’s students are now known worldwide. These are Oleg Krysa, Yuriy Mazurkevych, Bohdan Yanivsky, Viktor Yeresko, Bohodar Kotorovych.

A. Kos-Anatolsky wrote almost 500 musical works, 100 critical articles on music, literature, cultural and public life. He also wrote poems. Other composers composed songs to his texts. In the work of the Ukrainian composer Anatoly Kos-Anatolsky, the theme of the Carpathians occupies a significant place. Among the works of A. Kos-Anatolsky are many examples of theatrical, symphonic and chamber-instrumental genres.

Kos-Anatolsky’s unique genre is the song. Kos-Anatolsky’s songs immediately found an emotional response in the hearts of listeners. The composer was called the “singer of the Carpathian region.” The artist always felt a deep connection and love for the land of mountains, mountain ranges, unique songs, customs and legends.

The work of Anatoly Kos-Anatolsky is a unique phenomenon of Ukrainian musical culture of the second half of the 20th century.
