Discussion of the draft educational program ” Physical education” in the context of training future teachers

In March, the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Teaching Methods of the Berdyansk State Pedagogical University held a discussion of the draft educational and professional program ” Physical education” (2026) for the training of first (bachelor’s) level higher education students in the specialty A4.11 Secondary Education (Physical education).

The traditional event brought together a wide range of stakeholders interested in improving the quality of training future physical education teachers. Higher education students, graduates, employers, practicing teachers, as well as representatives of the academic community joined the discussion.

Among the invited stakeholders-practitioners are physical education teachers from secondary education institutions:

  • Viktor Klymenko (Municipal institution “Primorsky Regional Ukrainian-Bulgarian Multi-profile Lyceum of II-III Degrees” of the Primorsky City Council of the Berdyansk District of the Zaporizhzhia Region);
  • Serhiy Borzenkov (Volnovakha General Secondary Education Institution of I-III Degrees No. 7 of the Volnovakha Urban Territorial Community);
  • Elizaveta Balueva (Mining Support Institution of General Secondary Education No. 17 of the Kurakhiv City Council of the Donetsk Region).

The guarantor of the educational and professional program, Associate Professor Natalia Samsutina presented the updated draft of the OPP “Physical Education”, focusing on its structure, program learning outcomes, compliance with the professional standard and requirements for a physical education teacher. During the discussion, the participants provided a number of constructive proposals for improving the content of educational components, in particular: updating disciplines taking into account modern challenges in the field of physical education; strengthening the psychological component of physical education teacher training; introducing modern information technologies into professional activities.

Of particular value were the proposals of employers and practicing teachers, which are based on the real needs of general secondary education institutions and contribute to ensuring the practice-oriented nature of the educational program.

In order to provide feedback and take into account the opinions of all interested parties, a stakeholder survey was organized. The results obtained will be summarized and taken into account during the further improvement of the educational and professional program “Physical Education”.
