On the occasion of the World Day for the Abolition of Slavery, on December 2, 2025, the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Human Health of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University held an online educational event titled “Modern Slavery: Awareness as a Means of Prevention.”
The purpose of the event was to draw students’ attention to the issue of modern slavery, including human trafficking, labor and sexual exploitation, as well as to raise awareness of the risks that increase under martial law.
The event was moderated by Natalia Kryvun, Deputy Dean for Educational Work of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Human Health and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Choreography and Fitness.
During the educational hour, lecturers and students watched several video materials that revealed various aspects of modern slavery both worldwide and in Ukraine. Special attention was given to a documentary highlighting manifestations of slavery and exploitation during the war in Ukraine. The viewing contributed to a deeper understanding of how military actions increase the population’s vulnerability and create additional risks of falling into situations of exploitation. After the screening, participants had the opportunity to independently reflect on the material and draw their own conclusions about the issues raised.
Summarizing the event, moderator Natalia Kryvun emphasized that within the framework of the Day for the Abolition of Slavery, it is especially important to remember personal safety, the ability to recognize risky situations, and readiness to act in case of danger.
