On February 21, Ukraine and the world celebrate International Mother Language Day. Mother language is the source of life for the people, the genetic code and spiritual heritage of every nation. On the occasion of the holiday, first-year students of the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Sciences (groups 1UML ZL, 1UML RP, 1UML AM) and the Faculty of Physical, Mathematical, Computer and Technological Education (groups 1TST, 1IF, 1EN, 1MA, 1T) took part in the linguistic mini-tournament “Mother language is my wealth!” (teacher – associate professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Journalism V. Yunosova).
The participants of the event had the opportunity to test and improve their knowledge of lexicology (understanding the lexical meanings of words, paronyms, dialectisms, etc.), phraseology, word formation, morphology and syntax, spelling and punctuation.
The purpose of the event was to inform the applicants about the establishment of the International Mother Language Day, to expand and consolidate knowledge of the language, as well as to draw the attention of first-year students to the need for a careful attitude to the word, to encourage them to improve their own speech. After all, language is a sacred place, with which not only the past, but also the future of the people, and its respect in the world are connected.
In conditions of war, language is also our weapon against enemies, it is a matter of our identity and national security. Serhiy Zhadan aptly wrote: “… History is now not just being rewritten – it is being rewritten in the Ukrainian language.” Let us not forget and in every way contribute to this with our work, let us continue our victorious historical march with our native word on our lips!
