From 4 to 10 May 2026, the Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching Methods of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University held Foreign Languages Week, which brought together a series of events aimed at promoting the study of foreign languages:
On 4 May, Foreign Languages Week opened with the online meme contest “Meme your English”, organized by Associate Professors of the Department Bohdana Saliuk and Iryna Shkola. The event combined English language learning, humour, creativity and modern digital culture. The participants demonstrated their ability to creatively interpret linguistic and cultural phenomena.
On 5 May, Volodymyr Tatarin, lecturer at the Department, held an English Movie Club meeting. The students watched and discussed an episode of the series Young Sheldon, “An Eagle Feather, a String Bean, and an Eskimo”, worked with vocabulary and discussed educational choices, giftedness, emotional readiness and family support.
On the same day, Olha Korobova, senior lecturer at the Department, conducted a practical class devoted to English idioms with the concept of “horse”. The students completed interactive tasks, worked in pairs and groups, and used the new vocabulary in communicative situations.
On 6 May, Oksana Dubrova, Associate Professor of the Department, moderated the debate “The World as a Global Village”, devoted to the ideas of Marshall McLuhan, globalization, media and the influence of modern technologies on communication. The participants discussed the advantages and risks of the world as a “global village” and the role of communication technologies in modern society.
On 7 May, Iryna Shymanovych, Associate Professor of the Department, held the interactive event “Myth Busters: English Edition”. In a game format, students debunked myths about the English language and the culture of English-speaking countries, justified their answers and discussed the issues in English.
On the same day, under the guidance of Andrii Moroz, Associate Professor of the Department, a meeting of the student research group “Foreign Languages in the Modern World” was organized on the topic “Syntactic Difficulties in Translation”. The students considered current syntactic aspects of translation and analyzed examples of English texts.
On 8 May, Dmytro Poberezhnyi, senior lecturer at the Department, organized and moderated the student Science Slam. The participants learned about the features of the science slam format, presented their own speeches and took part in a professional workshop.
On 12 May, the Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching Methods held an online award ceremony for the winners of the literary translation contest “Azov Lines”. During the event, the results of the contest were summarized, the winners and participants were recognized, and the importance of literary translation for the development of language proficiency, creative thinking and intercultural communication was emphasized.
Also, as part of the Days of Science, the Department lecturers organized the work of student sections “Modern Approaches to Teaching Foreign Languages” and “Language and Text in the Modern Scientific and Cultural Space”. The students presented the results of their research, discussed current issues of language education, foreign language teaching methods, translation studies, linguistics and the functioning of language in the modern scientific and cultural space.
The events contributed to the promotion of foreign language learning and the development of students’ communicative, translation, research and creative skills.
