On May 12 and 15, 2026, as part of the university’s Science Festival, the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Teaching Methods hosted the student research sections «Current Issues in Modern Physics and Physics Teaching Methods», «Innovation in Modern Mathematics Education», as well as the academic seminar «Innovative Approaches to Teaching Physics and Mathematics Disciplines». As has become tradition, the events brought together faculty members, students at all three levels of higher education, and everyone with an interest in current developments in physics and mathematics education.

Students presented research spanning a wide thematic range. Particular interest was generated by papers on the digital transformation of mathematics and physics teaching, the potential of virtual laboratories, the DESMOS programme and the GYNZY online whiteboard for developing students’ research competencies, improved approaches to organising laboratory work, and the role of interdisciplinary integration in shaping a scientific worldview. Further highlights included presentations on the optical system of the human eye, renewable energy sources in Ukraine, the interpretation of the wave function in quantum mechanics, the distribution of non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function, and lesser-known pages from the history of science – the rivalry between Edison and Tesla (the «War of Currents») and the scientific dispute between Newton and Hooke over the foundations of classical physics. At the closing session, Head of the Department Oleksandr Shkola congratulated colleagues and students on the occasion of the Science Festival and presented a summary of the department’s research and educational-methodological achievements for the 2025–2026 academic year:

  • organisation and hosting of the 10th All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference «Research Work in the Training of Specialist Teachers in the Natural, Technological and Computer Sciences» (September 26, 2025);
  • active participation of faculty and students in all-Ukrainian and international academic conferences, including presentations at plenary and panel sessions and the publication of over 50 abstracts;
  • publication of 20 research articles in domestic and international peer-reviewed journals, including those indexed in Scopus and Web of Science;
  • successful defence of 44 qualification (master’s) theses by full-time and part-time students;
  • successful pre-defence of the doctoral dissertation by Serhii Kovachov, and progress attestation for doctoral candidates Oleksii Bielokon and Viktor Afanasiev;
  • first place for Oleksandr Medvedenko (group 4phi, PMCTE Faculty) in the competition «Scientist of the Year at BSPU – 2025».

The student sections and academic seminar were distinguished by substantive presentations delivered by prospective bachelors, masters and doctors of philosophy, as well as members of the department’s teaching staff (Oleksandr Aleikin, Viktor Afanasiev, Oleksii Bielokon, Bohdan Hevko, Viktoriia Dinkova, Denys Ivaniush, Mariia Kovalenko, Nadiia Kovalska, Yaroslav Koropetskyi, Ihor Kuchai, Yurii Leshchyk, Maksym Maksymenko, Oleksandr Medvedenko, Daiana Petrenko, Diana Solomka, Alona Spartesna, Pavlo Tsykalo; Yuliia Deriabina, Svitlana Yefymenko). The discussion covered a wide range of scientific and methodological issues, in particular those related to the comprehensive topic of research activity. Research has been and remains an integral part of the work of the department’s academic staff and of the system of professional training of future educators.

We sincerely thank all faculty members and students of higher education for their active research engagement, substantive presentations and participation in the department’s events !
