On April 23, 2026, undergraduate and graduate students of the Department of Biology, Human Health and Physical Rehabilitation of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University joined the meeting of the student scientific circle “Current Problems of Biology”. The topic of the meeting was a discussion of the brain in the era of digitalization.
Global digitalization is a process in which digital technologies are an integral part of almost all spheres of life – learning, work, communication and leisure. A person gradually adapts to these changes, learns to quickly process information, use new tools and interact in a virtual environment. On the one hand, digital technologies expand opportunities, facilitate access to knowledge, speed up communication and open up new forms of self-realization. On the other hand, they change the way of thinking, attention and behavioral habits, making us more superficial and dependent on quick stimuli. So where are we really moving? To address this issue, students conducted a real study. Questionnaires were developed for three groups of respondents – students of secondary education institutions, students and adults. The survey participants were asked to assess the impact of gadgets on other areas of life – attention and ability to learn, sleep and well-being, behavioral characteristics. There will also be questions about how much time representatives of different age and social groups spend on digital applications and what they use them for. The survey results were analyzed during the meeting.
In addition, the students prepared interesting and well-founded reports and shared the results of their scientific research with those present.
Alina Kovinkina, a 2nd year bachelor’s student, reported on the topic “Global digitalization – formation, current state and development prospects”.
Anastasia Stryzhak, a 1st year master’s student, delivered a report “Why we can’t tear ourselves away from our phones: neuroplasticity and dopamine”.
Oleksandra Yevtushenko, a 1st year master’s student, is a practicing teacher, so she shared her experience and analyzed the problem of clip thinking as a phenomenon of modernity.
Gennady Shkapoedov, a 1st year bachelor’s student, analyzed the impact of gadgets on sleep.
Elizaveta Sinegub, a 1st year master’s student, a practicing teacher, shared her experience and thoughts on the topic “Gadgets in the educational space: opportunities, advantages and effective use in the educational process.”
Anna Badyul, a 1st year bachelor’s student, summarized her speech on the topic “Does addiction to gadgets really exist?”
The meeting of the circle enriched the participants of the discussion both in terms of subject matter and methodology. At the end, a discussion arose, and as a result, all those present came to a common conviction that we are not only adapting to changes, but also using the opportunities of the digital age with benefit.
