The “Explore Language & Sustainability” Conversation Club Has Launched

Students of Berdiansk University and the University of Colorado Boulder (USA) have begun a series of joint conversation club sessions dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The first online meeting served as an introduction for participants from both countries. The students told each other about themselves, shared their interests and what they enjoy learning, and discussed opportunities for lifelong learning. The conversation took place in a warm, friendly atmosphere that immediately set the tone for further collaboration.

The club is designed for students at the B1-B2 level and combines language skills development with discussions of today’s global challenges. Participants not only practice English listening and speaking, but also develop intercultural competence, learning to build dialogue with representatives of another culture and to form a shared vision of a sustainable future.

Many more meetings lie ahead: sessions will take place every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in September, October, and November. Each upcoming meeting will expand on topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals and give students a deeper understanding of the culture, values, and experiences of their conversation partners from across the ocean.

Participants from both universities note that this format of communication is not merely language practice, but truly a valuable experience: an opportunity to hear firsthand stories from peers in another country, exchange views on important global issues, and make new friends. Meetings like these help students feel part of a larger international community united by shared values and a commitment to sustainable development.

The conversation club will continue through mid-November, and its participants are looking forward to the next meetings, new topics for discussion, and the further development of friendly and professional ties between students of the two universities.
