The third-year journalists of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Journalism have begun the stage of “full immersion” in the profession. Internship in newspaper editorial offices has become an opportunity for future media professionals to feel the true weight of the printed word and learn how an issue is born – from the first idea to a fresh copy from the printing house.

Working in a newspaper requires special discipline and stylistic skill. Under the guidance of an experienced mentor – the head of the internship, Associate Professor Anzhelika Shulzhenko – students learn to work in different genres: from short notes and reports “from the scene” to lengthy interviews and analytical articles. The main task that the curator sets for young colleagues is not just to record a fact, but to find the right word and ensure the impeccable accuracy of each material.

Future specialists pay special attention to the modern challenges of print media. In the era of fast information, they master the combination of traditional newspaper standards with multimedia formats, adapt texts for online platforms, and work on the visual design of columns under scientific supervision.

A particularly valuable skill during practice is the ability to critically analyze sources. In the context of the fight against disinformation and manipulation, students practice methods of fact verification and learn to recognize hidden propaganda influences, which is the basis of modern media literacy.

“Newspaper journalism is a school of endurance and accuracy. Here you understand that every comma has meaning, and behind every line there is a responsibility to the reader”, the future reporters note.

We wish our third-year students a sharp pen, successful headlines, and exclusive materials that will surely decorate the pages of our “University Word” later!

Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Journalism
