On October 16, 2026, an interactive lecture and discussion entitled “Fostering and Preserving Ukrainian National Identity and Culture through the Cossack Martial Art SPAS” was held for students enrolled in the *Choreography* Educational and Professional Programme at Berdyansk State Pedagogical University. The event was organized by the Department of Choreography and Fitness and took place online via Zoom.

The guest lecture was delivered by Kostiantyn Anatoliiovych Ryzhov, Director of the Zaporizhzhia Children’s and Youth Sports School “Spas.” The meeting was held as part of the course *Theory and Methods of Teaching Ukrainian Folk Stage Dance*, taught by Viktoriia Serhiivna Oleniak. Students in extracurricular education programmes, leaders of choreographic ensembles, academic staff, and all those interested in the topic were also invited to participate.

During the event, participants explored the Cossack heritage of the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian traditions, and the distinctive features of the Cossack martial art SPAS. Particular attention was paid to the role of national cultural heritage in shaping the worldview of younger generations, preserving historical memory, and fostering an awareness of their own national identity.

The interactive format encouraged open dialogue. Participants discussed the role of Ukrainian traditions in contemporary society and the importance of passing them on to future generations. Cossack heritage is not merely a chapter in history; it is also an essential component of Ukrainian culture, spiritual values, and national distinctiveness. For future choreographers, this discussion also has practical significance, as Ukrainian folk dance is closely connected with Cossack traditions, their aesthetics, and characteristic movement patterns.

Events of this kind contribute to the national and patriotic education of university students, deepen their knowledge of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, and foster respect for the history of their native region.
